DRAME The suspect, from the same village, was arrested
Eight school children were killed and two others wounded in a village in central China by a man who was arrested, local authorities announced on Tuesday.
The tragedy occurred on Monday at the start of the school year in the village of Chaoyangpo, in Hubei province, said the town hall of Enshi, on which the village depends. A suspect, a 40-year-old single man from the village, was arrested, according to the same source. Initial reports indicated that the schoolchildren had been stabbed.
Other recent attacks
Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, where the carrying of firearms is very strictly regulated. In April 2018, a 28-year-old man stabbed nine schoolboys to death in Shaanxi province (north). He was executed in September of the same year, after explaining to the investigators that he had been the target of mockery when he himself was a student at the school.
In January 2017, a man wounded 11 children with a kitchen knife in a kindergarten in the southern autonomous region of Guangxi in January 2017.
