A pedophile who blindfolded a four-year-old girl before raping her was assaulted by her cellmate in prison, heard a court case.
Jonathan Byram’s lawyer revealed the details of the attack when the pervert was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Lawyer Ketherine Robinson told the Leeds Crown Court: “He fights in prison.
“He was assaulted by his cellmate.
“Others may think that this is what he rightly deserves and he accepts it.”
Byram’s sentencing hearing was briefly disrupted after a man from the public gallery went wild, while the details of the offence were presented in court.
Security personnel were summoned to court after the man shouted, “You better give him life or I’ll kill him.”
Rupert Doswell, prosecutor, told the court how the 50-year-old man attacked the girl.
The police were contacted when the victim told a parent about what had happened.
The girl gave a description of a tie used to blindfold her during the attack.
A tie matching the description was found at Byram’s house.
Byram, from Hazel Close, Chickenley, Dewsbury, pleaded guilty to rape.
He has previously been convicted of arson, child cruelty and assault.
Ms. Robinson, mitigating, told the court: “The best way for the accused to mitigate is through his plea.”
She added: “He has a real appreciation for the harm he has caused.”
Byram was told that he was to serve a 10-year prison sentence followed by a one-year extended authorization period.
He must also be registered in the sex offender registry for life.
Judge Neil Clark told Byram: “The real effect of this type of behaviour is the psychological impact.
“You can’t explain what happened.
“There must have been a sexual motivation.”
